When Others Don’t Approve of Your Blog

Regardless of the topic of a blog, all bloggers face situations in which others do not approve of their blog. While this type of reaction is popular with blogs focused on political or controversial issues, bloggers who maintain a personal blog can also be frowned upon by those who don’t approve of bloggers' choices in life. This article will cover topics such as dealing with negative comments on a blog, dealing with criticism from friends and family members, and will address situations where blogging can cause legal problems for the blogger.

Manage negative comments on your blog. Negative comments posted on a blog are one of the most common forms of disapproval a blog can receive. These comments can be displayed in response to a specific blog post or can be displayed as an objection to the blog in general. These negative comments can be very disturbing to the blogger, but fortunately, there are methods to deal with these comments.

Bloggers who fear that negative comments may influence other blog readers have a few options to deal with these negative comments. One way to do this is to set the blog not to allow comments. This will effectively eliminate comments, but it will also eliminate comments from blog supporters. Another option for a blogger is to simply delete negative comments when they find them. This is not a very effective method as other readers may have time to read the comments before they are deleted.

Bloggers who are online often and are not concerned about negative comments appearing on the blog for a short period of time can use this method. Another method of dealing with negative comments is to refute those comments on the blog. Finally, bloggers often have the option to prohibit visitors who leave negative comments from making future comments.

Treatment of criticism of friends and family members. Bloggers can also be criticized by friends and family members for their blog content. Friends and family members cannot use the comments section to express disapproval, but can express their concerns directly to the blogger in person, by phone or by email. This can be a difficult situation for bloggers as they can be torn between maintaining the blog according to their vision and keeping their friends and family happy.

In many cases, friends and family members may object to a blog because they believe it may be potentially harmful to the blogger or because they are concerned about how the blog will affect them. In these delicate situations, the blogger has the option to delete or edit the blog or talk to friends and family members to explain their feelings without making any changes to the blog.

When blogging can cause legal problems. Bloggers should be aware that there are situations in which their blog can cause legal problems. Making statements about another person that are false and defamatory may result in the blog subject seeking retaliation for defamation. Other blog posts may also be considered illegal for a wide variety of other reasons.

Bloggers may assume that freedom of expression laws fully protect them, but there may be situations where statements in a blog are not protected by freedom of expression laws and the blogger faces legal ramifications for his or her posts. Blogging that violates another’s copyright laws can also cause legal problems.
